Its been a Year!

Ah maayzing.. Its been exactly a year since I've posted here (a year and 4 days?).. Social networking has taken a nosedive and I've been living in isolation for reasons I can't fathom. But its time I put an end to that dontya think (I might just as well be talking to myself here).

Ah.. Perfect for gaming. I'm done with Prince of Persia 2008 (works like a charm!) and yet to start on Batman Arkham Asylum and Assassin's Creed.. O and Portal 2.. I'm still amazed at the difference between the desktop and this laptop.. The games run as smooth as butter. Melted butter. O__o

But I'd better put it to good use and start on the artwork now.. More updates later!

I'm not too happy with the coloured version, colouring with a mouse isn't fun :( Quite liked the old bookish feel of the line drawing..

Experimenting's fun! :) Did her hair in poster paint and the rest of her in pencil (had black paint remaining after the assignment work)..

I think for each day of college I bunk, I'll draw or paint something to add to my personal work.. Can't upload them instantly coz I don't have a scanner at home :(

P.S. Got some critique from the uncle at the net cafe, saying that her hair's too black

Mothers' Day Special! :) Saw the recipe in yesterday's paper (The Hindu) and I had all the ingredients.. Didn't turn out as good as the Chocolate cake I usually make.. This one has no oil added to it, I guess sponge cakes are supposed to taste kinda dry.. Found it tastes good fresh outta the fridge! :P

Privileged?

Last week our Chechi had brought her daughter along to my house. (Chechi is what I call the lady who comes to help maintain the house.. I don’t understand how some people can casually call them servant, it sounds like a swear word.. Maid sounds marginally better) They were planning to go grocery shopping afterwards and she had come to help her mom out. Her name’s Aina, a very hard working young girl, all of 13 years old and quite a young lady already..

She accompanied me in feeding all the animals here and amidst our chatter I came to know that she can cook (I’m 21 years and counting.. Instant noodles anyone?), she likes to draw and the inevitable - quarrel with her younger sibling :)

I ask her what she wants to become in future.. She ponders for awhile.. She answers saying she doesn’t know. That got the wheels turning in my head.. Waitaminnit… Would she be given a say in that?? I prayed she would.

Have you given a thought to those people passing by on the street? Those children playing by the rail tracks, the families living in cardboard shacks. The chechi who comes to clean your house, the fish seller whose throat hurts from advertising her fish.. The speeding auto driver who tries to get back to earn his quota of a few trips a day. The grumpy bus conductors, scowling at students flashing their student concession cards. The security guards, the workers on the roadside, those out-of-state waiters who work in that restaurant you often visit..

Those people whom we cross paths with everyday, yet remain invisible to us. Nobody asked them what they wanted to be.. They too have their dreams and aspirations. What did we do to be born into the privileged world that we live in? We had no part to play in being chosen to be born to a loving family, a sound education, food on the table 3-4 times a day, a home. We’ve been given the freedom to make a choice, in what we want to wear, eat, watch.. In what we want to make of ourselves. Not everyone gets that chance.

We weren’t born privileged to be rude or snobbish to those around us. The least we can do is smile.. Try and be nice to others, lend a helping hand. We’ve been given the chance to make our lives meaningful.. And perhaps others’ lives through ours. So here’s your chance, you’re living it.. Be the light in the darkness :)

I can’t help having this worrisome feeling that something unpleasant is approaching… And I don’t even know how to put this in sentences, my mind’s getting scrambled.

You’re in the safety of your house, going about with life like you usually do… What do you do when you know that someone you care for is miles away, and you know trouble is knocking at their door? Yea, you’d like to take teleport there before that door can be kicked open, now only if that were possible.

Well, there’s a kid, let’s name him Dudley for now, who happens to be a bully… No surprises there. Dudley starts throwing his weight around (literally) and butting into other’s lives, things start getting ugly then. And my kid brother happens to be on the receiving end. He’s staying in Hyderabad and attending junior college there. It’s pretty much like school, only students there enroll to be coached on taking entrance exams, to get into some of the top engineering colleges in India. Hearing of untoward incidents of ragging in colleges, is not helping to smother the wave of oncoming dread.

What is with rich parents who don’t give a damn about their only kid?? They let him loose, load him with cash, and don’t care whether he does anything worthwhile in life, because they can buy a seat in college (they probably can buy the college?), a chair waiting in the family business; with all that, why does dear duddleykins have to lift a finger? Or turn a page?

Dudley here (who’s bigger than my bro), is already adept at taking others’ cash, lying to his parents and making others lie for him (else face the consequences); he’s probably got a clan full of other kids just too scared to face him. Unfortunately these two are the only boys at the paying guest residence, who study at the same place. The other tenants are all older guys who are working. We chose the paying guest place because the hostel was so strict that there have been cases of students discontinuing coz of depression.. And another case of a kid running away from there :-S

But face the fatso is what my brother did, apparently talking to his parents didn’t really help as they don’t believe my bro. Well how would they? I mean, they spent all 17 years of their kid’s life spoiling him, why should they suddenly decide to change now? Seems the parents will talk to their son when they visit next week. So no doubt, the bully’s gonna come to know who got him into that mess. At times like this its not that great to have an overly imaginative mind :-S

Got a few rough sketches here, was trying to come up with a robot design for a contest.

Is it just me, or do you happen to think of the future a little too often too? As in, take college for instance. Why join college?

‘You miss college, you miss the best years of your life!’ I heard a lot of that prior to joining.

One year has passed by, and I have to say, I’m not happy with where I am. I really didn’t work enough. Sure, it was fun, but there’s a limit to that. I can’t agree with the notion that college is all about having fun. Though time’s ticking by, I don’t see anyone else noticing the sand enveloping this side of the hourglass. Before you know it, you’re 6 feet under it. I wonder if they’ve given up on themselves or that they’ve really not thought about where they want to go.

There are plenty of times I’ve asked myself why I joined. It comes to the one answer that I don’t know where I’m going, but I do know it will be in the art field. And so I put a hold on animation, came back to square one, and took up Fine Arts in college. But four years from now, I want to walk away not just with a BFA in hand; I want to use these years to learn, experiment, create and grow with art. (And if I’m lucky enough, get my name down in the history books doing it… I’ll figure out how on the way :D ).
